Basketball Recap: Bell Comes Up Short

Bell lost against Trenton back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Bell Bulldogs were outmatched by the Trenton Tigers and fell 57-18. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 456th, while the Tigers are ranked 80th).

When it comes to explaining why Bell lost, don't look at Maddie Smith. Despite the final result, she went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points and four steals. Smith is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Trenton had a senior duo take command as Nyima Gillyard went 8 of 13 on her way to 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals and Koi Perry went 7 of 9 on her way to 16 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayley Sloan, who posted ten points and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Bell and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Trenton, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bell won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Riverside Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bell is facing Riverside Christian at the right time seeing as Riverside Christian is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Trenton, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Trenton Tigers duke it out with the Newberry Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Trenton is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56 points per game this season.
