Hazard is 1-9 against Wolfe County since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs will take on the Wolves at 12:00 p.m. Hazard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Hazard didn't have quite enough to beat Perry County Central and fell 4-3.
Hazard saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Halle Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Wolfe County never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Breathitt County with a sharp 16-0 victory. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Sami Noble made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Chloy Creech was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Reaghan Patton, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Wolfe County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Breathitt County only posted an OBP of .143.
Wolfe County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hazard, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-8.
Both Hazard and Wolfe County just can't seem to miss. The Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Wolfe County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hazard suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Wolfe County in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
