The Cox Mill Chargers pushed their score all the way to 58 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their rough 79-58 loss to Lake Norman might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Cox Mill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while Lake Norman is ranked third).
Cox Mill's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was James Carswell, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Brown, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Lake Norman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Trent Steinour, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Tre Mckinnon was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with three steals and two blocks.
Cox Mill has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Lake Norman, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cox Mill on the road again on Wednesday and play against A.L. Brown at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. As for Lake Norman, they will square off against West Cabarrus at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Gianni Vines and Santana Lynch.
