The Wharton Wildcats entered their tilt with the Hillsborough Terriers with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Wharton snuck past Hillsborough with a 50-46 win on Tuesday. Given Wharton's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Hillsborough is ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wharton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tamara Bryant out in front who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Sydney Hurst was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals and two blocks.
Hillsborough lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jojo Cruz-Smartt, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Ellayna Stephens, who scored ten points.
Wharton's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Hillsborough, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.
Wharton will look to defend their home court on Friday against Bloomingdale at 6:30 p.m. Hillsborough won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Leto at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. Leto has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8.
