West Montgomery will look to defend their home turf on Wednesday against West Stanly at 7:00 PM. The MaxPreps rankings say the odds are against West Montgomery, but that can only make success all the sweeter.
West Montgomery found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 14-42 punch to the gut against East Montgomery last Friday. West Montgomery's loss came about despite a quality game from senior Payton Coble, who rushed for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns. In fact, with 14 tackles Coble was a force on both sides of the ball.
Meanwhile, after having lost a blowout to North Stanly in their previous match, West Stanly were happy to find some success. West Stanly came out on top in a nail-biter against South Stanly, sneaking past 20-17. The tight race was right in line with the MaxPreps state rankings' forecast.
West Stanly's win lifted them to 3-2 while West Montgomery's defeat dropped them down to 1-3. West Stanly caused 3 turnovers against South Stanly, so South Stanly will need to take especially good care of the ball.
