Volleyball Recap: Humboldt Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

Humboldt hadn't done well against St. Mary's-Colgan recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Cubs walked away with a 2-0 win over the Panthers. For the Cubs, this counts as revenge for the 2-1 victory the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Humboldt didn't let St. Mary's-Colgan take a single set, but it sure wasn't easy: every set was decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-23.

Humboldt's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Skylar Hottenstein led the charge by getting 11 digs and two aces. Hottenstein is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last three games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynna Ellis, who had nine digs and one assist.

Humboldt pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for St. Mary's-Colgan, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Humboldt will be taking part in a tournament against Prairie View at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for St. Mary's-Colgan, they will venture away from home to take on Southeast at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
