The Cristo Rey St. Martin Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They took a 48-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Westlake Christian Academy. Cristo Rey St. Martin lost against Westlake Christian Academy in their previous head to head back in March of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 100-24 score last time.
Despite the loss, Cristo Rey St. Martin saw an underclassman step up: Lebron Massey scored 24 points along with 6 rebounds. Massey scored a full 54.5% of Cristo Rey St. Martin's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Chance Handy was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.
Westlake Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Asa Anderson, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Howe, who scored 11 points along with 4 steals.
Cristo Rey St. Martin's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Westlake Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cristo Rey St. Martin will take on Kenosha Christian Life at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westlake Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Grayslake North at 7:00 p.m. on November 28th.
