The Horizon Hawks will head out on the road to take on the Monarch Coyotes at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Horizon has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 438 points over their last seven games.
A well-balanced attack led Horizon over Loveland in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Horizon blew Loveland out of the water with a 66-37 final score. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Horizon had established a 27 point advantage.
Horizon can attribute much of their success to Brady Greene, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and two steals, and Boaz Wisne, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Mccollum, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Monarch's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They received a tough blow as they fell 86-69 to Fort Collins. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
The match pitted two key players against one another: Logan Laverty and Jayce King. King had a great game and scored 41 points. Meanwhile, Laverty was balling out in the loss, scoring 20 points along with five steals.
Horizon has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Monarch, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.
Thursday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Horizon have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 46.4% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Monarch struggles in that department as they've made 45.6% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Horizon suffered a grim 79-58 defeat to Monarch when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Horizon, Aidan Kennedy (who scored 21 points along with six steals and five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
