The Gordo Green Wave lost against the Oakman Wildcats back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Gordo's rough 62-37 loss to Oakman might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Gordo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 320th, while Oakman is ranked 144th).
Leading Oakman to victory were Trenton Warren and Rick Johnson. Warren scored 19 points along with six rebounds and six blocks, while Johnson scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. The game was Johnson's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Bridger Upton was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Gordo bumped their record down to 1-3 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Oakman, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.
Gordo will head out on the road to face off against University Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Oakman and Curry will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
