The Centennial Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Centennial had no problem doing just that on Friday. They walked away with a 27-15 victory over Columbia Central. Given Centennial's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Columbia Central is ranked 95th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Shelbyville Central waltzed into Friday's contest with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They blew past Hillsboro, posting a 41-7 victory at home. Considering Shelbyville Central has won six contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The win makes it two in a row for Centennial and bumps their season record up to 9-2. As for Shelbyville Central, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1.
Centennial lost to Shelbyville Central on the road by a decisive 44-28 margin in their previous meeting back in September of 2020. Can Centennial avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
