Lejeune hasn't had much luck against Pamlico County recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Lejeune Devil Pups will face off against the Pamlico County Hurricanes at 5:30 p.m. Lejeune has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Lejeune fell victim to Pamlico County and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Hurricanes, falling 19-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Devil Pups' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
For Pamlico County's part, Kylee Morris made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Morris has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Peyton Robinson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Payton Force was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Pamlico County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Pamlico County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. Lejeune's loss dropped their record down to 4-4-1.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lejeune has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .507. However, it's not like Pamlico County struggles in that department as they've averaged .478. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
