Douglas unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 29-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fernley Vaqueros on Friday. The Tigers were up 21-7 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Keston Sadabseng threw for 216 yards while completing 73.7% of his passes. Zachary Jackson was his top target, picking up 53 receiving yards.
Keeshawn Love had a dynamite game For Fernley., rushing for 136 yards and one TD on only 15 carries. Love's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his ninth straight game with at least 128 rushing yards dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Stephens, who rushed for 69 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight carries.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Douglas will face off against Elko at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fernley, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Bishop Union at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
