Chandler is a perfect 5-0 against Brophy College Prep since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wolves will be playing in front of their home fans against the Broncos at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Chandler is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Hamilton, who was ranked first at the time (Chandler was ranked fourth). The matchup between the Wolves and the Huskies didn't end well, with the Wolves falling 55-41. The Wolves were up 14-0 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Chandler might have lost, but man, Will Mencl was a machine: he threw for 238 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 37 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Wolves' leading receiver Jai Jones was Mencl's top target yet again, picking up 109 receiving yards and one score.
While Chandler came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Hamilton: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 50%. The team can thank Damir Reagan for the heroic effort on defense: he. Chandler hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.39 or higher in three consecutive games.
Chandler didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kamari Crawford and Jacob Najor.
Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Brophy College Prep rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 51-42 win over the Colts. Winning may never get old, but the Broncos sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Case Vanden Bosch and Tee Smith. Vanden Bosch had a great game and rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Smith was balling out in the loss, rushing for 101 yards and three TDs, while also throwing for 209 yards and one touchdown while completing 76.2% of his passes.
The defeat snapped Chandler's winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 8-2 record. As for Brophy College Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
The upcoming contest will be a clash of competing strengths. Chandler has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 271.2 passing yards per game. Brophy College Prep, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 164.3 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Everything came up roses for Chandler against Brophy College Prep when the teams last played back in October of 2019, as the team secured a 49-0 win. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Broncos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
