The Albert Lea Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the St. Peter Saints at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Albert Lea will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Albert Lea is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over Red Wing on Thursday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.
Albert Lea let Margaret Olson and Hannah Schuhmacher run wild. Olson got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI, while Schuhmacher got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Wachols, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Albert Lea kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, St. Peter made easy work of Waseca on Thursday and carried off an 11-1 victory. The Saints haven't had any issues with the Bluejays recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Auden Anderson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Ashley Liebl was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Dent, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
St. Peter now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Albert Lea, their record is now 5-8.
Albert Lea suffered a grim 18-8 defeat to St. Peter when the teams last played back in May of 2015. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
