After two games on the road, Skyview is heading back home. They will take on the Gateway Olympians at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Skyview pushed their score all the way to 59 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Northfield on the road by a decisive 77-59 margin. While losing is never fun, Skyview can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Northfield is ranked 14th).
Skyview's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Nevaeh Lucero, who scored 19 points along with eight assists and five rebounds, and Leila Estrada who scored 18 points along with six assists and two steals. Lucero continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Marisol Recendez, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, Gateway's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 53-11 defeat at the hands of Denver North. Gateway was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 29-8.
Skyview's loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Gateway, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Skyview against Gateway in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 65-18 win. With Skyview ahead 40-8 at the half, the game was all but over already.
