Summertown is 8-2 against Perry County since January of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Summertown Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Perry County Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Summertown has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 733 points over their last ten matchups.
Even though Cornersville scored an imposing 69 points on Tuesday, Summertown still came out on top. Summertown walked away with a 77-69 victory over Cornersville. Given Summertown's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Cornersville is ranked 404th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kurt Burleson and Grayson Burlseon were among the main playmakers for Summertown as the former dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on 31 points and 12 rebounds. The game was Burleson's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sawyer Sherman, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Perry County had to suffer through a rough 80-50 loss at the hands of Santa Fe. Perry County has not had much luck with Santa Fe recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Summertown's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.7 points per game. As for Perry County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Summertown couldn't quite finish off Perry County when the teams last played back in January of 2021 and fell 57-55. Can Summertown avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
