The Grossmont Foothillers will take on the La Costa Canyon Mavericks in a tournament on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Grossmont's victory against Mission Hills wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Grossmont won by a run and slipped past Mission Hills 4-3.

Saraya Roope made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
Roope wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Ennis, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Costa Canyon). They never let Academy of Our Lady of Peace get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Monday. The victory was nothing new for the Mavericks as they're now sitting on three straight.
The team relied heavily on Malia Whitehouse, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She also brought in three RBI, marking her first of the season. Addy Brown was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
La Costa Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
La Costa Canyon pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Grossmont, their win bumped their record up to 3-6-1.
Grossmont skirted past La Costa Canyon 2-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Does Grossmont have another victory up their sleeve, or will La Costa Canyon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
