The Oak Mountain Eagles''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight loss. Their rough 42-17 loss to Spain Park might stick with them for a while. The final score was a far cry from the score of their previous head-to-head, which saw the teams combine for 12 points.
When it comes to explaining why Oak Mountain lost, one person who can't be blamed is Woodrow Hackbarth. Despite the final result, he rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 49 yards and a touchdown. Hackbarth was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards.
Spain Park found their leader in underclassman Brock Bradley, who threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Oak Mountain's defeat was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Thompson and 11-2 Hoover (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 56.5% over those games). As for Spain Park, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.
Oak Mountain does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Spain Park will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Pelham at 7:00 p.m. Pelham will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Spain Park is ranked 23rd).
