Northlake Christian (Covington, La.) jumped out to an early lead against
Pope John Paul II (Slidell, La.) and never looked back on the way to a 27-16 victory on Saturday.
The Wolverines scored six points in the first quarter. Northlake Christian scored on a
Josh O'Rear touchdown pass to
Dane Landry.
NC was up 20-0 at the half after taking the lead on a O'Rear touchdown pass to Landry in the first quarter.
The Covington school saw its 20-point halftime lead fall to 12 entering the fourth.
The Wolverines' standout player in the win was O'Rear. The junior quarterback threw two touchdowns. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.
Northlake Christian had struggled this season, allowing 34.6 points per game.
NC got revenge for last year's 42-22 loss to the Jaguars with the victory.
With the win the Wolverines extended their winning streak to three games.
In a 2A District 8 game next week Pope John Paul II (2-4) takes on St. Helena Central, and Northlake Christian (4-2) will go up against Aquinas also in a 2A District 8 game.
