Amelia County is 2-8 against Buckingham since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Raiders will face off against the Knights at 5:00 p.m.
Amelia County will face Buckingham after dropping another heartbreaker against Lunenburg Central on Tuesday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. The Raiders fell 7-4 to the Chargers.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Buckingham made sure to put some runs up on the board against Cumberland on Tuesday. The Knights' pitchers stepped up to hand the Dukes a 19-0 shutout. Considering the Knights have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Andrew Dorrier and Ethan Myers were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Dorrier tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Myers tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dorrier has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Dorrier got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and one RBI, while Myers went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Myers a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ethan Walter was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Trey Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Buckingham's win was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Amelia County, their loss dropped their record down to 5-9.
Amelia County suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Buckingham in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
