Carlsbad has gone a perfect 5-0 against Los Lunas recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. Carlsbad will take on Los Lunas in a tournament on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Carlsbad is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Atrisco Heritage Academy, who was ranked ninth at the time (Carlsbad was ranked 22nd). Carlsbad had just enough and edged out Atrisco Heritage Academy 4-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cavemen/Cavegirls.

Kalion Fuentes made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Aubrey Hernandez was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Los Lunas entered their tilt with Bernalillo on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Spartans 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Carlsbad, Los Lunas also got a great game from a two-way player: Ashley Baca. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Baca a new career-low. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsie DeGraaf, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Vigil, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Los Lunas pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Carlsbad, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Everything went Carlsbad's way against Los Lunas when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Carlsbad made off with a 9-0 win. Will Carlsbad repeat their success, or does Los Lunas has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
