The New Trier Trevians will head out to face off against the Highland Park Giants at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Saturday, New Trier beat DePaul College Prep 6-1. The victory continues a trend for the Trevians in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won four in a row.
Meanwhile, while Highland Park put up some runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Hoffman Estates. The Giants blew past the Hawks 6-0. Considering the Giants have won four games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Lily Freedman made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sofia Cisternino, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those doubles were her first of the season. Brooklyn Swick was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Highland Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hoffman Estates only posted an OBP of .192.
New Trier pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Highland Park, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2.
New Trier skirted past Highland Park 5-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Trevians repeat their success, or do the Giants have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
