Atchison is a perfect 10-0 against Washington since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Phoenix will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Atchison has three straight wins, Washington has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Atchison made easy work of Highland Park and carried off a 12-1 victory. The Phoenix might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by 11 runs or more this season.

Kirrah Duncan was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged three or more in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, Atchison got a big performance out of Jadyn Boldridge, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kenzie Weedon-Jacobs, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Atchison hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Washington scored the most runs they've had this season last Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They lost 17-2 to Sumner Academy.
Washington saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shyann Houk, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Janiah Anthony also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Washington's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Atchison, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Everything went Atchison's way against Washington when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Atchison made off with a 15-8 victory. Do the Phoenix have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
