Mount Vernon pushed their score all the way to 44 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They and Whitefield Academy were almost perfectly matched up, but Mount Vernon suffered an agonizing 45-44 loss. Despite 152 more yards than Whitefield Academy, Mount Vernon couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Sam Nazarian, who threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns. Nazarian hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for four straight games. Nate Thomas was in the mix as well, providing Mount Vernon with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, St. Francis' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They fell 24-15 to Mount Pisgah Christian.
The losses dropped Mount Vernon to 6-3 and St. Francis to 1-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Mount Vernon has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 380 total yards per game. It's a different story for St. Francis, though, as they've been averaging only 135.4 per game. Will Mount Vernon be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will St. Francis flip the ?
