Valley Christian is 8-2 against Gilbert Christian since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Valley Christian will venture away from home to take on Gilbert Christian at 6:30 p.m. Valley Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
Valley Christian is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Seton Catholic, who was ranked 25th at the time (Valley Christian was ranked sixth). Valley Christian never let Seton Catholic get on the board and left with a 4-0 win on Monday.
The result came thanks to Cameron Bergloff's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Berkeley Kaiser was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Caleb Danzeisen was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Gilbert Christian entered their tilt with Payson on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Longhorns.
Gilbert Christian let Tyler Burr and Sam Webb run wild. Burr went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double, while Webb scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Gilbert Christian is 8-1 when Webb posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Coyle, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Gilbert Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive matches.
Valley Christian's record now sits at 13-2. As for Gilbert Christian, their record now sits at 9-6.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Valley Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .481. However, it's not like Gilbert Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .488. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Valley Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Gilbert Christian when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 9-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for Valley Christian since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
