For the second week in a row, Eastern is taking on School Without Walls. The Ramblers will challenge the Penguins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Eastern has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Eastern is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: School Without Walls, who was ranked third at the time (Eastern was ranked sixth). The Ramblers lost 16-0 to the Penguins on Friday. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Ramblers were not able to get on the board.
For School Without Walls' part, Nolan Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave Smith a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Jeffrey Myers, Jr. was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zach Daskal-Koss, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
School Without Walls always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The win was the sixth in a row for School Without Walls, bringing their record up to 6-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Eastern, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 6-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Eastern has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like School Without Walls struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
