The Elbert County Blue Devils had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Commerce 54-52. The victory was just what Elbert County needed coming off of a 70-42 loss in their prior game.
Elbert County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Grady Jones out in front who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. Landon Hill was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with four steals.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Evan Peters, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Sorrells, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds.
Elbert County's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-14. As for Commerce, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elbert County will take on Rabun County at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Rabun County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully Elbert County likes a good challenge. As for Commerce, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Athens Christian at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
