The Ninilchik Wolverines waltzed into their matchup Thursday with five straight wins dating back to last season but they left with six. They came out on top against North Douglas by a score of 76-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Ninilchik found their leader in underclassman Kade McCorison, who shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 44 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Rowan Mahoney, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Ninilchik's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.2 points per game. As for North Douglas, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
Coincidentally, Ninilchik and North Douglas will both be playing Seward the next time they take the court. North Douglas will head out to face Seward at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Ninilchik will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
