Covington has gone a perfect 10-0 against Lehman Catholic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Buccaneers will venture away from home to square off against the Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. Covington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.7 runs per game this season.
Covington picked up another tournament win on Monday. They put the hurt on Catholic Central with a sharp 23-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Buccaneers.
Cassidy Iddings made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Jayda McClure was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 4-for-4. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Ava Hartwig, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Covington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Catholic Central only posted an OBP of .391.
Meanwhile, Lehman Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Botkins, falling 10-0.
Lehman Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Covington, their record now sits at 20-5.
Lehman Catholic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Covington has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 13.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Lehman Catholic, though, as they've been averaging 9.6 hits. Given Covington's sizable advantage in that area, the Cavaliers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Covington got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April against Lehman Catholic by a conclusive 24-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buccaneers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
