The Harker Heights Knights will challenge the Temple Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Harker Heights has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Tuesday, Harker Heights had just enough and edged out Shoemaker 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted against the Wolves since April 13, 2021.
The team relied heavily on Brianna Warriner, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was MacKenzie Uschan, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Temple waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Bulldawgs by a score of 6-3.
Brooke Knox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Madyson Combs was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. Jordyn Valdez was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Harker Heights is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Temple, they pushed their record up to 13-9-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Harker Heights hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Temple struggles in that department as they've averaged .341. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Harker Heights skirted past Temple 3-2 when the teams last played back in March. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
