The Virginia City Muckers lost against the Smith Valley Bulldogs back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Virginia City took a 46-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Smith Valley. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Virginia City in their matchups with Smith Valley: they've now lost three in a row.
Virginia City's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaiya Krum, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds. Krum hasn't dropped below five steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Matley Kelley, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and seven blocks.
Smith Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Presley York, who scored 15 points. It was the first time this season that York scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Slater, who scored 11 points.
Virginia City's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-20. As for Smith Valley, they pushed their record up to 9-11 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Virginia City will take on Coleville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Coleville will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Virginia City surely won't give up without a fight. As for Smith Valley, they will head out on the road to square off against Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Smith Valley is facing Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage at the right time seeing as Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage is stuck on a 14-game losing streak.
