The J.L. Mann Patriots won the last time they faced the Woodmont Wildcats, and things went their way on Friday too. J.L. Mann walked away with a 42-32 win over Woodmont. Given J.L. Mann's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Woodmont is ranked 78th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
J.L. Mann found their leader in underclassman Imari Richardson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlin Bowling, who scored seven points along with five steals.
Woodmont's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Shemaiyah Earle, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and four blocks, and Mattie Kellett who scored five points along with six rebounds and three steals.
J.L. Mann is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. As for Woodmont, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. J.L. Mann will challenge T.L. Hanna at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for T.L. Hanna: they have been struggling with six straight losses at home, while J.L. Mann has snatched up six consecutive wins on the road. Woodmont on the road again on Tuesday and play against Hillcrest at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Hillcrest has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 18.
