Spurger is 1-6 against Zavalla since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Spurger Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Zavalla Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, Spurger didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Chester, but they still walked away with a 46-41 victory. The win was just what Spurger needed coming off of a 58-25 loss in their prior match.
Meanwhile, Zavalla scored the most points they've had all season to find success last Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Leggett 66-30 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Zavalla has posted yet this season.
Spurger pushed their record up to 4-7 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Zavalla, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.
Spurger came up short against Zavalla in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 46-40. Can Spurger avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
