Walkertown and Morehead are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2022, but not for long. The Walkertown Wolfpack will be playing at home against the Morehead Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Walkertown's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 contests.
Walkertown scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 90-73 victory over McMichael. Given Walkertown's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while McMichael is ranked 388th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Walkertown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Camereon Cartlidge led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Cartlidge scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Wilkerson, who scored 21 points.
Meanwhile, Morehead fought the good fight in their overtime match against T.W. Andrews on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Raiders by a score of 78-75. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Morehead might have lost, but man, Makel Smith was a machine: he scored 34 points. Smith is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 23 or more in the last six games he's played. Avery Bigelow was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Walkertown is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Morehead, their loss dropped their record down to 12-8.
Everything came up roses for Walkertown against Morehead in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 96-64 victory. With Walkertown ahead 54-26 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
