It was a good run, but the Bertie Falcons unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Washington County by a score of 45-42. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Bertie has scored all season.
Zymiere Dempsey and Tequan Holley certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Dempsey scored 17 points along with five steals, while Holley scored nine points along with five blocks and two steals. Dempsey is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayvien Ward, who scored seven points.
Brandon Carter Jr. continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Washington County, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Bertie's loss dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Washington County, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bertie won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Hertford County at 6:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hertford County is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 65.5 points per game. As for Washington County, they will head out on the road to face off against Tarboro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
