On Friday, The South Pointe Stallions faced the Northwestern Trojans in a battle between two of the state's top teams. South Pointe was outmatched by Northwestern on the road and fell 64-31. South Pointe's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why South Pointe lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mason Picket-Hicks. Despite the final result, he rushed for 165 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Aidan Turner was in the mix as well, providing South Pointe with two touchdowns.
Leading Northwestern to victory were Finley Polk and Turbo Richard. Polk threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns, while Richard rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per carry. Richard is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Burris, who picked up 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
South Pointe's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Northwestern, their victory was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1.
South Pointe will take on York at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (York is ranked 34th, while South Pointe is ranked 14th). As for Northwestern, they will head out on the road to face off against Catawba Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Catawba Ridge has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since August 18th.
