Shawe Memorial extended their losing streak to 14 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-15. They fell 8-3 to the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-2 back in April.
Leo Durocher put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Durocher was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Durocher wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mauro Felix, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base was Felix's first of the season.
As for Jac-Cen-Del, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.
Like Shawe Memorial, Jac-Cen-Del also got a great game from a two-way player: Blake Wagner. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Wagner also tossed a walk, which is notable because Jac-Cen-Del is 5-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise. Wagner was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jac-Cen-Del let Kasin Bowling and Brody Huff run wild. Bowling went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Huff got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Westin Hountz, who went 3-for-4 with one run.
Coming up, Shawe Memorial will challenge Trinity Lutheran at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Hilltoppers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Jac-Cen-Del, they will head out to face off against Southwestern at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
