The Florence Gophers struggled with threes on Thursday (the Gilbert Christian Knights had six more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Florence fell to the Knights 54-48. Florence has not had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Florence still got an impressive performance from Keylee Scarbrough, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Scarbrough has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of E.c. Turk-francis, who scored five points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Gilbert Christian was led to victory by Kaila Aston and Unesu Machiri. Aston dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Machiri scored 16 points along with eight assists and four steals. It was the first time this season that Machiri posted eight or more assists. Tylee Fox was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Florence has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Gilbert Christian, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Florence will head out on the road to face off against the Bears at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Coolidge is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games. As for Gilbert Christian, they will be playing at home against the Chargers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Benjamin Franklin is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
