Basketball Recap: Hillcrest's Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak at Home

Hillcrest entered their matchup against Cottonwood on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Hillcrest Huskies took a 49-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cottonwood Colts. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-49 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Hillcrest lost, don't look at Myles Mahler. Despite the final result, he posted 19 points along with six boards and four steals. Mahler's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Josh Pike was another key player, putting up eight points.

Cottonwood was led to victory by Luka Cecez and Luke Park. Cecez put up 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks, while Park went 5 for 9 en route to 14 points along with six assists and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of John Rosevear, who scored nine points and six rebounds.

Hillcrest's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-7. As for Cottonwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hillcrest will square off against Tooele at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hillcrest is facing Tooele at the right time seeing as Tooele is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Cottonwood, they will take on Wasatch Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wasatch Academy will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Cottonwood surely won't give up without a fight.
