The Gaithersburg Trojans had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They blew past Rockville 48-21 at home. The result was nothing new for Gaithersburg, who have now won five matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Despite the defeat, Rockville had strong showings from Joshua Burnette Jr., who picked up 83 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Nicky Holloway, who threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns.
Gaithersburg's win was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.8 points per game. As for Rockville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gaithersburg will take on Richard Montgomery at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rockville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwood comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
