Grandview extended their winning streak to five on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 8-7-2 in the process. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Sumner Academy Sabres, sneaking past 12-10. The Bulldogs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Sabres, too.

Chase Ransom was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Grandview is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-6-2 otherwise. Ransom was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaden Daniels, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Grandview: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tyler Ransom, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

As for Sumner Academy, they dropped their record down to 1-7 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. On the bright side, the ten- run performance marked their highest-scoring match to date.

On Sumner Academy's side, Lucas Kehoe made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Donavan Richardson, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.

Grandview and Sumner Academy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in their respective state rankings. The Bulldogs will square off against Park Hill South at 10:00 a.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (306 vs. 28). Meanwhile, Sumner Academy (ranked 208th) will meet Atchison (ranked 62nd) on Thursday.
