Ava Hazelton made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Audrey Hasenzahl and Parker Bennett did most of the damage at the plate: Hasenzahl went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Bennett went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Hasenzahl has posted since back in March. Addison Frein also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Mid Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Dunmore came out on top against Honesdale on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Bucks were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Hornets. The victory continues a trend for the Bucks in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won seven in a row.
Like Mid Valley, Dunmore also got a great game from a two-way player: Rachel Walsh. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Walsh was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Dunmore let Paige Ancherani and Bella Pasko run wild. Ancherani went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Pasko went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Jaclyn Brown was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Mid Valley's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Dunmore, their record now sits at 8-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mid Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Dunmore struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Mid Valley took their win against Dunmore when the teams last played on April 4th by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
