Basketball Recap: Kareem Anderson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cape Fear Academy over Pine Lake Prep

Cape Fear Academy suffered their biggest loss since February 17, 2024 on Monday. They lost 73-52 to the Pine Lake Prep Pride. While losing is never fun, the Hurricanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while the Pride are ranked 52nd).

Cape Fear Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kareem Anderson, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 16 points. The matchup was Anderson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Stan Romer, who posted seven points and five rebounds.

Joseph Bruce was his usual excellent self, putting up 26 points in addition to five boards and four steals for Pine Lake Prep. Bruce has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jamie Lawson, who had 11 points in addition to eight boards and five assists.

Cape Fear Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season. As for Pine Lake Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.

Cape Fear Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 57-48 victory against Southeastern Christian Academy on the 3rd. As for Pine Lake Prep, they will head out to face off against Mountain Island Charter at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th. One thing working in Pine Lake Prep's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
