The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs will head out to challenge the Chillicothe Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Lynchburg-Clay's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last seven matches.
Lynchburg-Clay is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against West Union on Tuesday as they made off with a 28-0 victory. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Christian Flowers and Caden Faust made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Flowers pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Faust struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Flowers has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Flowers went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Faust went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two runs gave Faust a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lynchburg-Clay got a massive performance out of Quin Wells, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and five RBI. Wells continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Lynchburg-Clay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .809. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Chillicothe's offense. They came up short against Miami Trace on Monday, falling 10-0. The Cavaliers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lynchburg-Clay pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games. As for Chillicothe, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
