Nanih Waiya has been on the road for four straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Velma Jackson Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Velma Jackson took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Nanih Waiya, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Nanih Waiya beat McAdams 51-44. Given Nanih Waiya's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while McAdams is ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nyshea Hoskin was her usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with five steals. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Nanih Waiya's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexzandria Eiland, who scored four points along with 11 rebounds and eight steals.
Meanwhile, Velma Jackson was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap two weeks ago as they fell 54-48 to McAdams. Velma Jackson has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Nanih Waiya pushed their record up to 16-2 with that win, which was their tenth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points per game. As for Velma Jackson, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Nanih Waiya against Velma Jackson when the teams last played on January 5th as the squad secured a 64-32 win. Will Nanih Waiya repeat their success, or does Velma Jackson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
