Basketball Recap: Markus Lloyd Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Estes Park

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for SkyView Academy on Friday. They strolled past the Estes Park Bobcats with points to spare, taking the game 50-35. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Bobcats are ranked 204th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

SkyView Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Markus Lloyd, who went 8 for 15 en route to 19 points. Lloyd continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Isaac Dove was another key player, putting up eight points along with 12 boards and three steals.

SkyView Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Estes Park only racked up four assists.

Estes Park's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Phineas Smith, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Smith is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Hayden Powell, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

SkyView Academy pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Estes Park, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

SkyView Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 84-29 win against Belleview Christian on the 21st. As for Estes Park, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-38 victory against Clear Creek on the 23rd.
