Baseball Recap: Chatham Gets the Win

Chatham won the last time they faced Catskill and things went their way on Friday too. The Panthers walked away with a 9-5 win over the Cats. With that victory, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Brayden Steltz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Owen Wilber was incredible, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2025. Thomas Pierro was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

The win made it two in a row for Chatham and bumps their season record up to 5-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Catskill, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chatham will head out to challenge Highland at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Huskies' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Catskill, they will venture away from home to take on Cairo-Durham at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Cats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
