The Waverly Tigers will head out on the road to take on the South Webster Jeeps at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Waverly has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while the Jeeps will arrive with six straight wins.
Last Friday, Waverly ended up a good deal behind the Pirates and lost 60-42. While losing is never fun, Waverly can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 528th, while the Pirates are ranked 124th).
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but South Webster ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged Minford out 64-62. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Tyler Sommer continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 4-for-7 from long range and almost dropping a double-double on 27 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Eli Roberts was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Waverly dropped their record down to 7-10 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for South Webster, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.
Waverly came up short against the Jeeps in their previous matchup back in January, falling 58-46. Can Waverly avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
