Eastern Wayne is 2-8 against Southern Wayne since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Eastern Wayne Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Southern Wayne Saints at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Eastern Wayne has six straight victories, Southern Wayne has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Eastern Wayne has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 37 points or more this season. They breezed by Ayden - Grifton at home to the tune of 56-13. Given Eastern Wayne's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Ayden - Grifton is ranked 516th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Southern Wayne's 20-8 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell 45-38 to James Kenan on Tuesday.
Despite the loss, Southern Wayne got a solid performance out of Nevaeh Hines-Bass, who scored 23 points. Hines-Bass scored a full 60.5% of Southern Wayne's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Eastern Wayne's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 35.33 points. As for Southern Wayne, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
Eastern Wayne won a match that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in December of 2022, slipping by Southern Wayne 25-24. Will Eastern Wayne repeat their success, or does Southern Wayne have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
