Basketball Game Preview: Academy of the New Church Lions vs. Westtown

Academy of the New Church is 2-8 against Westtown since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Academy of the New Church Lions will head out to face off against Westtown at 5:30 p.m. One thing working in Academy of the New Church's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.

Academy of the New Church is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Woodbury: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Academy of the New Church blew Woodbury out of the water with a 70-36 final score. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 65th in Pennsylvania, while the Thundering Herd are ranked 228th in New Jersey), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Academy of the New Church's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dior Carter, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Carter is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Marquis Newson, who went 9 of 13 on his way to 18 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks.

Meanwhile, Westtown lost to George School on the road by a 74-59 margin last Friday. Westtown has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Westtown's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Academy of the New Church, their victory bumped their record up to 15-9.

Academy of the New Church lost to Westtown on the road by a decisive 64-48 margin when the teams last played back in January. Can Academy of the New Church avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
